The tiger killed a cow at Achhoti village in Durg district on Friday

A tiger, which was for the first time spotted at Mangatta village of Rajnandgaon district on December 27 night, killed a cow at Achhoti village in Durg district on Friday. The pugmarks of the stray tiger were also found at Latabod village in Balod district on Saturday. The images of the pugmarks of the stray tiger were taken by the forest officials for examination. Forest officials from three districts- Rajnandgaon, Durg and Balod were deployed to keep a close watch to monitor the locations of the stray tiger so that any untoward incident could be averted.

The official sources claimed that the tiger strayed into Rajnandgaon district from either Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve Maharashtra or Indravati Tiger Reserve. After entering the area, the tiger was roaming in three districts- Rajnandgaon, Durg and Balod. Three teams comprising of forest officials from Balod, Durg and Rajnandgaon are monitoring the locations of the stray tiger under the supervision of Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) S K Singh, Field Director of Udanti Tiger Reserve H L Ratre and Chief Conservator of Forest Durg Shalini Raina.

The forest officials are working round the clock to catch the stray tiger but yet to get success in their mission. The forest officials claimed that no human killing has been reported so far. Speaking to ‘The Hitavada,’ Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) S K Singh said that the Forest Department is trying to ensure safe passage of the tiger from the area and it is being ensured to send the tiger in the tiger zone. The villagers from Balod, Durg and Rajnandgaon are being made aware by the Forest Department for the protection of the stray tiger.

The Department is also trying to capture the tiger in the cage. The tiger is moving in night hours because of it, there is a difficulty to trace the location of the tiger, said S K Singh. Meanwhile, villagers of these districts were in panic and they are spending sleepless nights. Unless the tiger is caught by the forest department, panic-like situation would prevail.
