Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday said that people’s trust on police is the biggest asset of police and thus they should work towards winning the heart of people. The Chief Minister was addressing the inaugural session of IPS Conclave at Police Headquarters, Nava Raipur in Atal Nagar on Sunday. The Chief Minister asked the police officers to work for the development, provide safety to public, win trust of people and maintain law and order in the state. Besides, the police officers must work effectively to take benefits of public welfare schemes to the people, he added.

The Chief Minister further asserted that the senior police officers should create such atmosphere that the moral of police personnel remains high. Naxal affected remote villages, which has problems in the form of poor road, erratic power supply and drinking water supply, may be far from the reach of bureaucrats and others but not for the police. Police officers and personnel should work in coordination with the district administration to resolve such problems, CM Baghel said. If police personnel help a patient for treatment through Mukhyamantri Sahayata Kosh, then the police will win the trust of the person, his family members and the people of the whole village, the CM said. District collectors have been asked to work in coordination with the police, he said.

The Chief Minister asked the police department to take measures to connect more youths with sports and engage the rural women in economic activities. Baghel emphasised the need to strengthen police intelligence to check illegal supply of arms, ammunitions, bullets and explosives to the Naxalites. Baghel directed the officers to bring quickness for taking action on chit-fund companies. The Chief Minister hailed the efforts to the police officers in checking Naxal incidents and maintaining law and order in the state. There has been peace in the naxal-hit areas of the state, he pointed.

The Chief Minister extended the New Year greetings to the police officers on the occasion. In his address, Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu said that there should be a fear of police among criminals and affection of people towards the police. DGP DM Awasthi said that 5000 constables and sub-inspectors would be recruited by the Police Department in 2020. Around 46 per cent Naxal incidents have decreased in the state within the last one year. Cases against the agents of the chit-fund companies were withdrawn in the state. Rs 7.92 crore were recovered from the chit-fund companies. Processes have been initiated to return the recovered amounts to the investors.
