Ajay Agrawal elected as Speaker n Congress wins 9 Municipal Corporations 
 
Congress secured ninth Municipal Corporation after Congress candidate Ajay Tirkey and Ajay Agrawal have been re-elected as Mayor and Speaker of Ambikapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) respectively on Wednesday. Congress candidate Ajay Tirkey defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Prabodh Minj by nine votes. Ajay Tirkey polled 28 votes and Prabodh Minj polled 19 votes. One vote was invalid. Later, the election for the post of the Speaker of the AMC was held. Congress candidate Ajay Agrawal defeated BJP candidate Paramjeet Singh Babra by eight votes.
 
Congress leader Ajay Agrawal polled 28 votes while BJP candidate polled 20 votes. It may be mentioned that 27 Congress corporators, 20 BJP corporators and one independent corporator have been elected to the AMC. Earlier, all 48 corporators were administered the oath of office and secrecy by Surguja Collector and Presiding Officer Saransh Mittar. It may be mentioned that the Congress party has made a virtual sweep in the urban body elections where its candidate were declared elected as the first citizen. In Raipur Municipal Corporation Ejaz Dhebar has been elected as Mayor while Pramod Dubey has been elected as Speaker. In Durg Municipal Corporation, Dheeraj Bakliwal has been elected as the Mayor while Rajesh Yadav has been elected as the Speaker.
 
In Durg Municipal Corporation, Vijay Dewangan has been elected as the Mayor while Anurag Masih has been elected as the Speaker. In Chirmiri Municipal Corporation, Kanchan Jaiswal has been elected as the Mayor while Gayatri Birha has been elected as the Speaker. In Raigarh Municipal Corporation, Janki Katju has been elected as the Mayor while Jayant Thethwar has been elected as the Speaker. In Bilaspur Municipal Corporation, Ramsharan Yadav has been elected as Mayor while Sheikh Riyazuddin has been elected as the Speaker.
 
In Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation, Hema Deshmukh has been elected as Mayor while Pappu Dhaketa has been elected as the Speaker. In Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation, Safira Sahu has been elected as Mayor while Kavita Sahu has been elected as the Speaker. Swearing-in-ceremony of newly elected corporators of Korba Municipal Corporation will take place in Korba on January 10 and the Mayor and Speaker will also be elected on the same day.
