IN a sudden shift in weather, the cloudy conditions and bone-chilling winds is a sign that the entire State may witness major dip in temperature. Under the influence of existing cold weather conditions and isolated showers, the weatherman has warned of dip in mercury level by 4 to 5 degrees till January 11. Senior Meteorologist of Meteorological Center, Raipur H P Chandra said that cold wave conditions will prevail over North Chhattisgarh with minimum temperature expected to shoot down by 4 to 5 degree Celsius till January 11.
 
Apart from some other districts, Raipur will also be at its coldest with a similar dip in temperature. While elaborating on the systems that infuse cold wave conditions, Senior Meteorologist said that a western disturbance lies over North Pakistan and its surrounding areas along with an axis that is transporting moisture continuously over the country including Chhattisgarh. A cyclonic circulation also lay over North West Rajasthan under the influence of the western disturbance along with a similar cyclonic circulation is formed over North West Madhya Pradesh, he added.
 
These three strong systems have resulted in isolated showers in the state on Wednesday. The existing conditions is expected to bring down the mercury level and transform the weather into bone chilling cold wave conditions across the state. In a state wide forecast, moderate rainfall is expected at one or two places or thundershowers is likely on January 9. The sky will be cloudy with chances of light rainfall in Raipur on Thursday. There is a warning of hail storm at one or two places in Surguja district on Thursday, Met Center stated.
 
The sudden weather shift resulted in rainfall at isolated places across the state with Bilaspur recording the highest rainfall of 15mm during the day followed with Ambikapur and Pendra Road receiving 5mm and 2mm rainfall. Bilaspur and Pendra was the coldest place in the state with the highest fall of maximum temperature by 7 notches. Except Jagdalpur, all other districts recorded below normal maximum temperature. However, minimum temperature was above the normal level in all districts across the state excluding Rajnandgaon, which was just one degree below normal.
