Congress won 30 seats and NCP bagged 10 in the 58-member ZP house. Congress had fielded 42 candidates and NCP 16. BJP, which contested all 58 seats, could manage to win only 15. Shiv Sena, which decided to contest independently despite being a partner with Congress and NCP in Maha Vikas Aghadi Government in State, registered one of its worst performances by winning just one seat. Shetkari Kamgar Paksha won a seat.

One more seat was won by an Independent candidate. With 30 seats, Congress took a jump of 11 seats this time compared to its tally in 2012. Similarly, NCP also increased its tally by three seats. In 2012, it had seven seats. Now, it has won 10. On the other hand, BJP’s tally stands reduced from 22 in 2012 to 15 now. Shiv Sena has proved to be the biggest loser. Its tally has come down from eight in 2012 to just one now. Thus, it has lost seven seats. Home Minister and senior NCP leader Anil Deshmukh’s son Salil Deshmukh, who contested from Metpanjra circle of ZP, registered a comfortable victory. Similarly, former Minister and senior NCP leader Rameshchandra Bang’s son Dinesh secured victory from Raipur circle in Hingna tehsil.
Among other prominent candidates who got elected are Chandrashekhar Kolhe (NCP, Paradsinga circle), Manohar Kumbhare (Congress, Kelwad), Shanta Kumre (Congress, Wadamba Malgujar), Tapeshwar Vaidya (Congress, Dhanla), Dnyaneshwar alias Nana Kambhale (Congress, Koradi), Anil Nidhan (BJP, Gumthala), and Ujjwala Bodhare (NCP, Khadki). Of 58 winning candidates, only three have polled votes more than 10,000. Avantika Lekurwale of Congress from Wadoda circle polled the highest 12,337 votes. She is followed by Mukta Kokade, Congress candidate from Patansaongi circle, polling 10,969 votes, and Salil Deshmukh of NCP who polled 10,031 votes. Whereas, Sanjay Zade of Shiv Sena from Kandri-Soneghat circle polled the lowest number of votes -- 3,383. With an impressive tally, Congress has got a clear majority on its own. However, as it contested in alliance with NCP, Congress may finalise allotment of the subject committees after accomodating the ally.

According to some reports, Shetkari Kamgar Paksha and Independent members also declared their support to Congress-NCP combine. Thus, Congress-led alliance’s tally in the ZP increases to 42. Now, all eyes will be on the name Congress announces for the post of ZP President, which is reserved for woman. The elections to ZP was held after a gap of over seven years. The last election was held in 2012. However, the elections could not be held as scheduled in 2017 owing to litigations challenging finalisation of reservation, and designating certain rural areas as Nagar Panchayats or municipal councils. The area of Hudkeshwar-Narsala was annexed to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) area. The current elections also are subject to the final order of the Supreme Court, which is hearing petitions.
