The State Election Committee of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) has finalised three probable names as the Congress party candidate for Marwahi by-poll, which will be held on November 3.
Talking to mediapersons at state Congress party office Rajiv Bhawan after the meeting, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that detail discussions were held on the names for Marwahi by-poll in the meeting and the Committee finalised a panel of three names as the probable candidates of Congress party in the Marwahi by-poll. The panel of names will be sent to All India Congress Committee (AICC) for its final approval, he added.
 
Replying to a query on Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) President Amit Jogi’s allegations “Congress government is trying to prevent him from contesting the Marwahi by-poll”, CM said,
“A government cannot prevent anyone to contest the election. The Marwahi assembly seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribes. The person, who have caste certificate, can contest the by-poll from Marwahi assembly constituency.”
 
Asked on another query on Kota MLA Dr Renu Jogi’s demand “Congress should leave Marwahi seat for Jogi family,” Baghel questioned why the Jogi family did not leave the Kota seat for senior Congress leader and first Speaker of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Rajendra Prasad Shukla’s family after his death.
 
The meeting of the CPCC’s State Election Committee was held in presence of State Congress In-charge P L Punia, CPCC President Mohan Markam and Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel at Rajiv Bhawan. The meeting continued for over two hours. Discussions were held on the names of all 10 contenders from the party. Health Minister T S Singhdeo, Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey, Forest Minister Mohammad Akbar, Labour Minister Dr Shiv Kumar Dahariya, Raipur Rural MLA Satyanarayan Sharma, Rajya Sabha Satyanarayan Sharma and other members attended the meeting.
 
Earlier, talking to media persons at Swami Vivekananda Airport Raipur, State Congress In-charge Punia said that the AICC would take final decision on the party candidate for Marwahi by-poll and the party candidate will be announced within two days, Punia added. Asked on Kota MLA Dr Renu Jogi’s statement- “Congress party should leave the Marwahi seat for Jogi family, Punia said that the Congress party is not run on the advice and suggestion of Renu Jogi.
The CPCC’s State Election Committee has finalised three names, Ajit Shyam, Block Medical Officer Marwahi Dr K K Dhruw and retired judge Pramod Paraste as the Congress party candidate for Marwahi by-election.
 
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel met all 10 contenders of the Congress party for Marwahi by-poll at Chief Minister’s House. Baghel met these Congress leaders one by one. Congress leaders Gulab Singh Raj, Ajit Shyam, Block Medical Officer Marwahi Dr K K Dhruw, retired judge Pramod Paraste, Zila Panchayat member Shubham Pendro and other leaders are the probable contenders from the Congress party for the Marwahi assembly by-poll of which three names have been finalised.
