Menace of rampaging elephants continues in Umaria district. The group of jumbos reached Kaseru Gram, very close to Bandhavgarh forest area on Sunday. The group includes around 35 jumbos. These errant elephants have entered the district from Chhattisgarh and destroyed several acres of crops. Last week the herd of elephants destroyed around 50 acres of crops in Pipariya village that left villagers in shock. Sources said the group of elephants has strayed into the village from village Badwara.

Forest team has been made alert regarding rampaging jumbos and they are trying to drive off the elephants with fruits and sugarcane. Problem of rampaging elephants is rising continuously for two years in districts including Sidhi, Umaria and Anuppur. For the first time, group of 40 elephants strayed out from Chhattisgarh during 2018 and since then problem of rampaging elephant is continuing in several parts of Madhya Pradesh.

Last year a group of 15 elephants entered Singrauli area and killed two and injured many. They also destroyed houses and crops in villages. Field guards of the Forest Department are continually making efforts to control elephants but they failed too. These rampaging elephants are errant in behaviour and they stray out in villages anonymously. To prevent elephants from being annoyed, foresters get truckloads of banana, sugarcane, jackfruit etc as a feast for them.
