Continuing with series of protest against private hospitals accused of exploiting COVID-19 patients by giving hefty bills, activists of NSUI and Youth Congress tried to ‘gherao’ office of Jabalpur Collector but were stopped by cops before the Collectorate. Reportedly cops had to resort to mild lathi charge and use of water canon to disperse the Congress workers. The Congress party has accused the administration of providing shield to private hospitals or else situation would have been different in treatment of corona patients who suffer the most with government hospitals running full.
 
According to information, a demonstration was staged by members and activists of NSUI and Youth Congress with an aim to ‘gherao’ office of the Jabalpur Collector. The protest was headed by Raghu Tiwari and Rizwan Ali Koti, who initially gathered at Tayyabali Chowk and later marched towards Collectorate. On threthe way to Collectorate, the Congress members were stopped as cops had arranged barricading before the office of Jabalpur Collector. Congress workers reached the Collectorate and confronted the cops deployed by administration.
 
Taking gravity of them situation cops had to resort to mild lathi charge and use of water cannon to disperse Congress members who raised slogans against the administration of having provided shield to private hospitals. Dinesh Yadav, President of the City Congress Committee and other Congress leaders, lambasted the private hospitals and accused the administration of having ignored the exploitation of covid patients in private hospitals. The Congress members also demanded that administration must take control of private hospitals and offer treatment to people who are victims of COVID-19. In case no heed is paid by the administration, the NSUI and Youth Congress would be forced to announce for ‘Jabalpur Bandh.’
