Medical Teachers appointed through Divisional Selection Board (DSB) have begun their agitation to press their demand to regularise them. There are some teachers who are working as DSB even for the last 20 years because of which they are deprived of several benefits given to the regular teachers by Government. With no solution in sight these teachers have decided to make their fight more aggressive. Their firmness to get fulfilled their demand was evident as they began their symbolic agitation on Thursday at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH). In medical colleges in all over Maharashtra, DSB teachers worked by wearing black ribbon to register their protest.

In GMCH, Nagpur the teachers gathered in front of the office of Dean and raised slogans. In IGGMCH, the delegation of teachers with Dr Sagar Pande and others met Dr Ajay Keoliya, Dean and handed over him the memorandum. Maharashtra State Medical Teachers Association (MSMTA) has taken up this issue on several forums, it met ministers all of whom assured them to act positively. Amit Deshmukh, Medical Education Minister too is very positive in resolving the issue. But no concrete decision is taken yet. As these DSB lecturers are not regularised, it has created several other problems.

These teachers are awaiting time-bound promotion time bound scale. The medicos in Government service get Non Practicing Allowance (NPA) as they don’t go for private practice. Unfortunately that allowance is not given to DSB lectures. Regular medical teachers also get allowances like PG allowance, research allowance and risk allowance as per 7th pay commission, pointed out Dr Sameer Golawar, an office-bearers of MSMTA. There are career advancement schemes, the benefits could not be availed by DSB teachers till date who found themselves helpless.

All the medical teachers are working hard in the present corona pandemic. Many got infected but they recovered and re-joined their duties. There is an unrest among all medical teachers in Maharashtra due to the ignorant attitude of not caring for the DSB teachers. Now MSMTA has decided to go for intense agitation. These teachers have decided to intensify their strike from November 1, 2020, if Government fail to give concrete assurance.
