Trivial issue was blown out of proportion, clarifies Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu

There is no such unusual conditions prevailing in State for which the opposition is lamenting about a deteriorating law and order condition, said Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu, while addressing the mediapersons on Saturday at his official residence. Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu said that the Chief Minister has directed to deploy more forces, if required and improve intelligence gathering infrastructure and to make it more active in Bastar, which is being complied with. In Bastar, the LWE movement has gradually come down since this government has come to power. Today Maoists are not getting people for recruitment in their cadre. The Home Minister while reacting on allegations of deteriorating law and order situation said that neither any major dharna or demonstration has taken place in State nor any road-blockage or train blockage or nowhere across State Police or Administration had to use force like lathi-charge or water-canon, etc to control any dharna or unruly mob.

So no such uncommon situation prevails anywhere in State, including Bastar to be called a deteriorating law and order. However, incidents of rape, attempt to murder, kidnapping and many other crimes have taken place in Capital as well as in other places across State, but State Police has acted promptly and brought all the culprits to book. If the Kondagaon incident is left out, in all other cases the police had acted promptly and arrested the accused. Answering a query on the alleged dispute between State Government and the Governor leading to his skipping the review meeting citing quarantine, the Home Minister said that how does the BJP sees there is constitutional crisis in State, he doesn’t know, but authentically, the Governor is the Constitutional Head of State and that State Government respect and revere the Governor.

There is no any motive to malign her image or insult her, the Home Minister said, adding that, he received a letter from the Governor seeking information regarding Left Wing Extremism activities and Maoist movement and was asked to visit Raj Bhawan along with DGP, ACS (Home) and Special DG (ANO). Soon after getting the letter, he had asked ACS (Home) to collect information sought through the letter and fix an appointment with the Governor, the Home Minister said. ‘When the meeting was fixed by us, then where is the question of running away citing any reasons’. Thereafter, the appointment was fixed on October 14. However, by time AICC Chhattisgarh In-charge P L Punia was tested COVID-19 positive since he had attended the meeting, he decided to be in quarantine for four days and accordingly the same was informed by ACS (Home) Subrat Sahoo to the Governor’s Secretary Sonmoni Borah and the meeting was cancelled. Sahu said that in the meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had called a review meeting which was unscheduled and he was asked to attend.

Here again when he spoke to the Chief Minister that how can he come, as he is in quarantine, the Chief Minister said that even he is in quarantine, nothing will happen and thereafter, he went to the meeting. This was the incident which was blown out of proportion, said Sahu. As far as dispute over transfer of Secretary to Governor, it is between the Governor and the Chief Minister who heads the General Administration Department. Answering a query on recruitment of police personnel that includes posts like Sub Inspectors, police constable, etc., the cause of delay is mainly because aspirants have knocked the doors of court where decisions are pending, there is no delay on the part of State Government, he added. Answering a query on justice for a student who committed suicide due to ragging by senior students in Jabalpur, the Home Minister said since the incident has taken place in the neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh, he will seek complete details of the incident from there and see what steps can be taken to provide justice to the family members of the student.
