Sawalakhe powers to first Vidarbha-level OLBCT title

CITY’S Jay Sawalakhe stamped his authority among over 100 participants to clinch the 1st Vidarbha-level Online Blitz Chess Competition. The competition was organised by Power Chess Academy in association with Nagpur District Chess Association through lichess.org platform. Sawalakhe garnered 7.5 points out of possible eight to claim the title on better tie-break quotient (41.75). Sawalakhe and Aahana Pachigar of Amravati ended on same points but the latter had scored 35.25 tie-break points to finish second best.
 
The third position was secured by Suhan Deshpande with 6.5 points. On his way to clinching the title, Sawalakhe defeated Prachi Chavan, Lakshita Rathod, Aadip Umale, Ayran Deogade, Vivaan Saraogi, Suhan Deshpande and Akshay Pardeshi. His only draw came against Aahana in the sixth round match. There was tie for best female prize between Aastha Turankar and Shraddha Bajaj with same tie-break score of 26.5. Cash prizes of same amount were given to both the female players.
 
Total 124 players from Amravati, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Bhandara, Yavtamal, Wardha, Buldana, Akola and Nagpur participated in the competition. The time control of 5 minutes plus three seconds increment from move one was given to all players. This tournament was conducted under guidance of RN Shriwas, Secretary, Vidarbha Chess Association and supervision of International Arbiter Deepak Chavan, FA Umesh Panbude and NI Ninad Saraf .
