Examiners in 3 cities conduct PhD viva of student in Canada

He is doing PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Vancouver in Canada. A very sincere student he is, got stuck in that country finding himself in an uncertain position as far as his PhD viva was concerned. Then pandemic came, lockdown started and everything became gloomy for him. But with opening of the doors of on-line examinations, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) took the lead and asked student to be ready to face the Viva-Voce. Dr Praful Sable, Director of Examinations and Evaluation of RTMNU with the technical expert arranged the viva of Somdatta Karanjekar, the student. In regular process the availability, convenience of the examiners is to be taken into consideration.

On several occasion bringing them together becomes difficult. But here the examiners were in three different cities-- Mumbai, Surat and Nagpur while Somdatta was in Canada. University planned on-line Viva of Somdatta. Nobody had to travel. The examiners--Dr B E Narkhede, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Pawai, Mumbai; Dr T N Desai, SUNIT, Surat; and Chairman of the Committee Dr Raju Mankar, Director of Laxminarayan Institute of Technology (LIT) in Nagpur.
 
Dr Mankar coordinated the whole process. RTMNU provided advanced web-based support for this examination through Cisco-webex platforms. The Viva Voce was conducted successfully from different locations and it was attended by 14 other researchers of the related field of research. Due to lockdown period RTMNU started on-line Ph.D examination from July 7, 2020 and till date more than 340 Ph.D Viva completed and about 75 Ph.D viva voce are in the process of examination.
