Of 1,180 Covid beds in Govt hospitals, 823 are vacant

Nagpur distt crosses 90% mark in recovery rate
 
 
In August, it was number of deaths, coronavirus positive cases that were haunting everybody. Now everything has changed in ‘positive’ sense--number of deaths declining, number of new Covid-19 cases reducing, recovery rate constantly on rise. Nagpur district is consistently improving in terms of recovery rate. On Tuesday, recovery rate of district not only reached 90% mark but it is up by 2% than the national average. National average of recovery on Tuesday stands at 88.60%. With active cases of Covid-19 are continuously reducing, the availability of beds in city hospitals is rising. Of the total 1,180 Covid beds in Government hospitals, only 356 are occupied, rest 823 are vacant.

There was a time when Covid-19 patients were running here and there to get beds. In some cases because of non-availability of beds a few people suffered in ambulances. In Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH), the total Covid bed capacity is 520 out of which only 79 are occupied. Of the total Covid bed capacity of 600 in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) 167 are under treatment while 83 are the suspected ones which means 250 beds are occupied. There are total 60 Covid beds in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and 28 beds have the patients. On consecutive fourth day, the district witnessed new cases below 500.
 
The 424 persons tested positive in one single day on Tuesday, of which 88 are from Nagpur rural while 336 are from Nagpur city. This has taken the cumulative positive cases to 91,012. Persons recovering in one single day too has reduced. The Nagpur rural is registering constant decline in new positive cases. On Tuesday, 583 persons became corona-free taking the cumulative recovery to 82,439. This has resulted in further decrease in active cases to 6,141. The number of deaths in last two days again reached two digits in one single day. The good part is rural Nagpur is still registering single digit deaths. On Tuesday too number of deaths registered from rural area was 3.
 
 
The city too witnessed single digit death number as seven persons became victim to this dreaded virus. With 10 deaths in one single day, the cumulative deaths reached 2,614. District is witnessing fluctuation in number of testing. But on Tuesday the number of testing was quite impressive. City’s testing number on Tuesday is up by almost 1,000 than the number registered on Monday. Nagpur rural registered 1,116 testing while 5,659 is the testing number of city taking the total testing on Tuesday to 6,775. Of the total testing on Tuesday, 3,881 samples were examined through RT PCR while 2,894 were through Rapid Antigen Test. The cumulative number reached 5,74,775.
 
Apart from the samples of Nagpur district, the people from Nagpur and out of city approached various laboratories in Nagpur to get themselves examined. The samples came for examination at various laboratories in Nagpur include virology laboratory of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) (583), Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) (485), molecular diagnostic laboratory of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) (302), National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) (102), Centre for Zoonosis, Nagpur Veterinary College affiliated to Maharashtra Animal Fisheries Sciences University (MAFSU) (97), private laboratories and Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (2,312), Antigen (2,894).
