The state-owned oil marketing companies are all set to implement a new system for delivery of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder from Novemebr 1 in select 100 smart cities in the country including Nagpur. Under the new system, the consumers will have to provide a one-time password (OTP) to the delicery agent at the doorstep before getting the refill. The delivery will not be completed untill a code is shown to the delivery person on the consumer’s registered mobile number.

The code will be sent in the mobile number of the consumer. It is important to note that the new system will not be applicable for delivery of commercial category LPG cylinders. The new system, called ‘Delivery Authentication Code (DAC), is aimed at preventing the theft and identifying the right customer. A senior officer in one of the oil marketing companies on the condiction of anonymity said that the system is already in place for the past six to eight months.

“We are already doing it in some parts of the city. However till now it was not mandatory. But form Novemebr 1, the system will come into effect,” he said. The officer also said that the DAC system will prevent blackmarketinmg of subsidised LPG cylinders. The authorities have recently decided to introduce the system in 100 smart cities and a pilot project of the same was started in the Jaipur city in Rajasthan.
