Monitor availability of onions, its prices: Govt to Collectors

As the Onion prices continue to make people shed tears, State Government on Thursday issued directives to all District Collectors to continuously monitor availability of onions and its market prices. The State Government also directed to ensure supply of onions in respective districts after assessing its availability and demands in all respective districts.
 
The State Government further issued directives to display information regarding, available stocks of onions and wholesale price particularly, in wholesale markets and proper publicity of wholesale and retail prices of onion should be made. On the directives of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department has issued detailed guidelines to all district collectors for monitoring availability, wholesale and retail prices.
 
It was stated in the guidelines that from the analysis of market price of essential commodities by the State-level Price Monitoring Cell, it was came to fore that since last one month an unprecedented hike in retail prices of onions have been noticed. Hence, all district collectors are being directed to supervise the availability of onions and their wholesale and retail prices at the earliest.
 
The Food Department directive further asked the district collectors to call an immediate meeting of all the wholesale and retail onion sellers and assess the availability and demand of onions and accordingly ensure its supply in their respective districts. The Department has also asked the collectors to carry out regular review of the daily supply and consumption of onions in the district and in case of any kind of problems in the import, transportation and warehousing of onions, it should be resolved immediately. The directive further stated that in case it is necessary to provide relaxation in stock limits, as per provisioned under Section 3 (A) of Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020, then the district collector can submit a proposal to State Government.
