In an important meeting of Kanchghar Dussehra Chal Samaroh held recently, it has been decided that owing to severity of COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Kanchghar Dussehra Chal Samaroh will not be taken out. Consequently an effigy of Ravan will also not be set afire. Apparent reason behind calling off this year’s function is to avoid congregation of people in the function organised by the GCF Estate.

The eclipse of COVID-19 has forced organisers of Kanchghar Dussehra Chal Samaroh to call off this year’s procession. A meeting of members and office-bearers of the Samiti presided over by Dr Ramakant Rawat to discuss the viability of taking out the Dussehra procession. Members attending the meeting unanimously decided that in view guidelines obtained from MHA excessive gathering of people should not take place as this would increase spread of COVID-19. The Kanchghar Dussehra Chhal Samaroh over the years has into its credit of drawing large inflow of people from various places within Jabalpur and surrounding areas of Jabalpur. People gather to witness the setting afire the 51 feet tall effigy of Ravana and later the procession is taken out to commemorate victory on evil. The members decided that effigy of Ravana would be set afire followed by the grand procession. Also that during immersion of idol only 10 person would go to Visarjan kund. As the samiti would provide the necessary preventive measures to members who go for immersion of idol. Among present were Murlidhar Rao, GS Thakur, Sanju Bhojak, Sudhir Sharma, Anurag Singh, Akhilesh Mishra and others.
