Sawalakhe clinches Vid-level title

YOUNG and talented Jay Neeraj Sawalakhe kept his slate clean to clinch the Online Blitz Chess Title, the other day. Nagpur’s Sawalakhe, a student of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Srikrishna Nagar, won all the nine boards to emerge clear winner of the tournament in which players from entire Vidarbha participated. Aahana Pachigar finished runner-up with eight points while Vedant Gulhane of Amravati secured third position with 6.5 points.
 
Best female player prizes were won by Lakshita Rathod, Shanya Shelkar and Vidhi Mishrilotkar of Nagpur. Majority of prizes were won by players from Nagpur. The tournament was held through the platform of lichess.org and was organised by Amravati Chess Academy with support from Amravati District Chess Association.
 
In the last and ninth round, Sawalakhe, playing with black pieces, defeated Parth Patange while second placed Aahana got the better of Lakshita Rathod. Gulhane beat Soham Vilayatkar to take third spot. On his way to title, Sawalakhe beat Vedant Gulhane, Archit Wagh, Sangharsh Aole, Soham Vilayatkar, Aryan, Lakshita Rathod, Aryan Deogade, Deep Deshmukh and Parth Patange. Players from Amravati, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Yavtamal, Wardha, Buldhana, Akola and Nagpur played nine rounds from their homes. Total 40 players participated in the tournament. In all 9 rounds were played. The time control was given 3 min plus 3 sec increment from move 1 to all players. This tournament was held under the supervision of IA Deepak Chavan, FA Umesh Panbude and NI Ninad Saraf.
