In a major drug haul amid the pandemic, contraband worth Rs 90 lakh was seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence’s (DRI), Raipur Regional Unit (RaRU) on the city outskirts under Mandir Hasaud police stations limit on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. It was being transported in a trailer-truck from Odisha to Uttar Pradesh, via Raipur in Chhattisgarh. RaRu works under the jurisdiction of DRI (Indore) Zonal Unit. Most interestingly, none of senior officials of Raipur police had any wild ideas about the vehicle interception, seizure and arrest during the whole operation which lasted for over 3 successive days and nights and were being supervised by DRI Joint Director (Indore) Dinesh Bisen and Deputy Director Nitin Agrawal (RaRU). In empty trailer, Cannabis was concealed in secret cavity made in the trailer, DRI sources said.
 
Based on specific intelligence, DRI sleuths from Raipur Regional Unit intercepted the vehicle on the outskirts of city at from National Highway in Mandir Hasaud. On searching the vehicle, the ganja was found stacked inside custom-made secret cavities of the trailer truck. After a detailed examination of the truck, they unearthed several bags of ganja filled inside several plastic bags. A total of 450.432 kg of ganja and 1.1 kg of poppy straw with an approximate value of Rs 90 lakh in the grey market was found.
 
Preliminary investigation indication that the contraband was sourced from a southern neighbouring State of Chhattisgarh and it was being routed from Odisha and destined to Uttar Pradesh via Raipur. In their further course of action, DRI sleuths arrested three persons and also seized the substance along with the vehicle under NDPS Act. Those arrested were identified as truck owner, its driver and help. “Further investigation in the matter is going on,” the sources added.
