With the arrest of a 36-year-old man, Purani Basti police on Saturday claimed to have cracked a case of burglary recently reported in the city’s Kushalpur area and recovered valuables of over Rs 17 lakh. “Based on analysis of CCTV cameras installed in the areas and other technical evidence, police succeeded in arresting the accused of burglary took place in the house of a retired Section Engineer at Kushalpur locality and seized booty, including cash and ornaments to the tune of over Rs 17 lakh. Police have also seized a bicycle used in the crime,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Lakhan Patle. The arrested burglar has been identified as Vijay Sharma (36), hailing from Durg’s Amleshwar, said ASP Patle, adding that the accused has a previous crime record.
 
ASP Patle further informed that interrogation is being done in connection with other burglaries that took place in the city recently. After being informed about the crime, a special team of personnel from Cyber Cell and Purani Basti police was constituted to investigate the burglary. Based on the investigation’s findings, police rounded-up Sharma from Almeshwar and subjected him to questioning, where he attempted to mislead investigators. Eventually, the accused broke and admitted to committing the burglary and stolen valuables were recovered from him.
 
 
It may be recalled that on intervening night of September 26-27, the accused broke into the locked house of Rajendra Ojha (65), a retired Section Engineer in the state’s electricity department, located at Kushalpur under Purani Basti police station and valuables of over Rs 17 lakh. An offence in this connection was registered with Purani Basti police station under Sections 380 and 457 of IPC.
