“Wildlife is a unique gift of nature and every citizen needs to play an active role for its protection. People should be more sensitive and compassionate towards the wildlife to protect as well as conserve it,” stated Forest Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah. Shah was addressing the closing ceremony of State Level Wildlife Week 2020 at Van Vihar National Park. Forest Minister Shah said “Active public participation is need of the hour to develop interest and a sense of belonging towards wildlife. A subject of wildlife conservation should be made compulsory at school and college-level.”
 
On the occasion, the Minister awarded winners of various competitions mainly painting, photography, ‘rangoli’, ‘mehendi’, palm painting, creative and face painting, held during the State Level Wildlife Week celebrations. Also, the Minister distributed the Wildlife Conservation Awards 2019 and 2020 to the officers and employees of the Forest Department under seven and eight different categories respectively.
 
The Forest Minister honoured Dr Atul Gupta, wildlife veterinarian of Van Vihar National Park on receiving the Zoological Friend Award by the National Zoological Park, New Delhi. Thereafter, he released the Vulture Estimation 2019 report. Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) Alok Kumar presented the report of State Level Wildlife Week.
