BJP gives 11 seats to Vikassheel Insaan Party from its quota of 121 seats in Bihar elections

THE BJP on Wednesday allocated 11 seats to associate partner Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) from its quota of 121 seats in Bihar Assembly polls. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had announced at a joint press conference on Tuesday that while JD(U) will spare some seats to Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) of former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi from its share of 122 seats and the BJP will accommodate VIP from its quota of 121 seats in the 243-member Assembly. JD(U) has provided seven seats to HAM. The seat distribution to VIP was announced at a press conference addressed by Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Bihar unit president Sanjay Jaiswal and VIP chief Mukesh Sahni. Jaiswal told reporters that VIP will also be provided one seat in Bihar legislative council in future.
 
VIP floated a couple of years ago by former Bollywood set designer Mukesh Sahni, was with the Opposition Grand Alliance till last week. Sahni had on Friday last announced an abrupt exit from the Opposition coalition in protest against “back-stabbing” by RJD, which helms the anti-NDA grouping, and its de facto leader Tejashwi Yadav. Sahni expressed happiness over return to the BJP-led NDA with which he had started his political innings in 2014 general elections. Cong releases first list of 21 candidates THE Congress on Wednesday released its first list of 21 candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections. The list was announced after the Congress Central Election Committee headed by party chief Sonia Gandhi cleared their names at a meeting held earlier this week.
 
The Congress has nominated Shubhanand Mukesh, the son of Congress Legislature Party leader in Bihar Sadanand Singh, for the Kahalgaon Assembly seat. The Congress fielded Akhauri Onkar Nath from Gaya Town instead of Mohan Shrivastava, who is facing charges of rape. JD(U) releases list of 115 candidates JANATA Dal-United JD(U) on Wednesday released a list of 115 candidates for the Bihar Assembly polls. Interestingly, the party has denied tickets to 11 of its sitting MLAs while accommodating the turncoats. Sitting MLAs Kapil Dev Kamat from Babubarhi, Guljar Devi from Phulparas, Suneel Kumar Chaudhary from Benipur, Ramesh Singh Kushwaha from Jiradei, Raj Kishore Singh from Vaishali, Ramanand Prasad Singh from Parbatta, Janardan Manjhi from Amarpur, Ravi Jyoti Kumar from Rajgir, Dadan Pehalwan from Dumraon, Dhumal Singh from Ekma have failed to get tickets. However, some of their relatives have been given the ticket. Ramanand Prasad Singh’s son Sanjeev Kumar, Kapil Dev Kamat’s daughter-in-law Meena Kamat, Dhumal Singh’s wife Sita Devi got the opportunity to contest on JD(U) symbol.
 
Ahead of polls, all MLAs who joined JD(U) have been given tickets. The party has fielded RJD MLAs who joined JD(U) - Jayvardhan Yadav in Paliganj, Ashok Kumar in Sasaram, Maheshwar Prasad Yadav in Gayaghat, Faraz Fatmi in Darbhanga Rural, Virendra Kumar Singh in Tegda. Congress MLAs Purnima Yadav will contest from Govindpur and Sudarshan from Barbigha on JD(U)’s ticket. The party has changed seats of three MLAs. Sitting MLA from Ghoshi Krishnanandan Prasad Verma will now contest from Jahanabad, Gora Bauram MLA Madan Sahni from Bahadurpur and Tikari MLA Abhay Kushwaha from Belaganj. Ahead of polls, all MLAs who joined JD(U) have been given the ticket. The party has fielded RJD MLAs who joined JD(U)- Jayvardhan Yadav in Paliganj, Ashok Kumar in Sasaram, Maheshwar Prasad Yadav in Gayaghat, Faraz Fatmi in Darbhanga Rural, Virendra Kumar Singh in Tegda, JD(U) has been allotted 122 seats and BJP has got 121 seats for Bihar Assembly polls. JD(U) will give seven seats to Jitan Ram Manjhi-led HAM from its 122 seats while the BJP will give 11 seats to Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) from its share of 121 seats. Elections to the 243-seat Bihar assembly will be held in three phases--October 28, November 3, and 7, and the counting of votes will take place on November 10.

Wrestler Babita Phogat quits Govt job to join politics

INTERNATIONAL wrestler Babita Phogat, who unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Assembly polls, on Wednesday resigned as the Deputy Director in Haryana’s Sports Department. She is likely to contest the bypoll in the State as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate. “I am going to take an active part in politics and campaign in the Baroda Assembly bypoll (in the State), besides the Assembly elections in Bihar,” she told the media after resignation.
 
She and Kabaddi player Kavita Devi were appointed deputy directors in the sports department on July 30. Winner of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Babita had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Assembly poll from Dadri. Earlier, she had resigned from the post of police sub-inspector on August 13, 2019, a day after joining the BJP with her father Mahavir Singh Phogat, a Droncahraya award winner. Mahavir, whose character was played by Aamir Khan in Hindi film ‘Dangal’, and his daughters -- Olympian and two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Babita and international wrestler Sangeeta Phogat -- were also showcased.
