The Management Council of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has unanimously decided to name the new seminar hall of the Department of Mass Communication after former Editor of ‘The Hitavada’ late G T Parande. Parande was not only a great journalist but he also headed the department. The present Head of the Department Dr Moiz Mannan Haque had moved the proposal in that regards.

As and when the item came for discussion every member of Management Council-- Vice-Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Sanjay Dudhe, Registrar Dr Neeraj Khaty, Director of Examinations and Evaluation Dr Praful Sable, Finance and Accounts Officer Dr Raju Hiwase and all other members approved it. Having joined The Hitavada in 1946 as a sports reporter, Parande rose to the post of Editor which he held for many years. He was also the newspaper’s Ombudsman - only the second person in India to hold that position.

Apart from his journalistic writing, Parande has also authored several books. He played a pivotal role along with former Vice Chancellor, the late Dr V.B.Kolte in setting up the Department of Journalism in Nagpur University in 1969 and offered his services as a teacher. In 1973, he took over as the head and had a long association with the department. He was instrumental in designing the initial curriculum and was a teacher, guide and mentor for countless students, most of whom attained great heights in journalism and other walks of life. The move has been widely hailed in the journalism and education spheres of the city.
