RESIDENTS of Bajaj Colony on Wednesday staged dharna demanding strict action against a family for cutting trees in New Rajendra Nagar-based Ambedkar Garden. Several trees were chopped-off citing the falling of leaves from the 20-25 year old trees falling in a residence besides the garden. The local residents opposing the unnecessary cutting of trees lodged complaint with the local police station and also staged demonstration under the banner and support of the Green Army.

The protesters said that full grown trees of peepal, orchid, neem, Indian gooseberry, gulmohar etc were chopped for simple reason in violating the rules and regulations. While demanding strict action against the alleged family, the protesters demanded planting of 100 trees against each chopped tree.

Founder of Green Army Amitabh Dubey said that the demonstration is not just against the latest incident of cutting trees in the capital city, but the main objective is to bring to the notice of the State Administration on massive chopping of trees across the state. He further said that government should frame strict rules and strong action should be initiated against those involved in reducing the green cover in the state.
