Following the age-old tradition of buying gold and silver jewellery on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras, a large number of customers were seen thronging various jewellery shops in the city on Friday. Customers were spotted visiting the shops at city’s Sarafa Bazar in Itwari as well showrooms at other locations giving due consideration to safety measures to control novel coronavirus.
President of Nagpur Sarafa Association Kishore Dharashivkar, told The Hitavada that a satisfactory number of people visited the jewellery shops on Friday. “People consider buying gold very auspicious on Dhanteras and thus they bought gold in one or the other form today. Satisfactory rush of buyers was seen in the markets. However, I think there
may be marginal fall in the
footfall as compared to the previous year,” he said.
Nevertheless, he said that the jewellers are satisfied seeing the revival of the trade. It is important to note that during the lockdown, the trade had come to a standstill. Dharashivkar also said that apart from festive buying, people are also buying gold for the upcoming marriage season.
Secretary of the association and Director of Rokde Jewellers Rajesh Rokde expressed happiness over the heavy turnout of buyers. “Right from the morning hours, people started visiting the showrooms today and the
trend continued throughout the day,” he said.
Rokde also said that the customers were seen comfortable buying gold at the current price level. Recently gold prices had surpassed Rs 58,000 per 10 gms. But on Friday it was just above Rs 53,000 per 10 gms.
