While the whole world was busy preparing to celebrate Diwali, the news of martyrdom of Naik Bhushan Rameshrao Satai struck the Satai family and all residents of Katol, like a bolt from the blue. As the news spread, a pall of gloom descended over Katol. On Monday, as women will be praying for long life of their brothers on the occasion of ‘Bhai Duj’, Sarita, the martyr’s sister, will bid final farewell to her beloved brother. It was only last month that Naik Bhushan Rameshrao Satai had visited his family at Katol.

Then, as his friend Ravi Gujar recalls, Bhushan had told his friends that he wanted to fulfill all his responsibilities ably and ensure a better life for his parents, younger brother Roshan and sister Sarita. “But, all his dreams stand destroyed...” said Ravi before emotions choked his throat. The martyr’s sister Sarita works at a local convent school. On Monday, while the world will be celebrating ‘Bhai Duj’, a grief-stricken Sarita will bid final farewell to her beloved brother Bhushan. For her, with his funeral, her brother will be consigned to memories. “Bhushan had come for a month-long holiday. We celebrated his birthday on October 3. During our discussion back then, Bhushan had told us that he was getting enquiries about his marriage. Relatives had started suggesting potential brides.

He was so happy...” said Ravi Gujar, who received the shocking news of martyrdom of Naik Bhushan Satai on Friday afternoon. Finding it difficult to believe, he contacted Bhushan’s and his common friend Rinku Charde, who is also serving in the Indian Army. All were in a state of deep shock. Diwali turned into a mourning for not only Satai family but entire town of Katol.

On Monday, the mortal remains of late Nk Bhushan Satai will be kept at Municipal Council hall in Faelpura area of Katol for people to pay tributes to the martyr, said Ratnakar Thakare, former Working President of Maji Sainik Sanghatana. The funeral will be held at Tar Bazar, Dr Ambedkar Chowk, Main Road, IUDP Rural Hospital, according to Sunil Kokate, Katol Police Officer. Meanwhile, traders have decided to keep the market closed. Several social, sports and other organisations will participate in the funeral.
