 The jawans of Officers’ Training Academy, Kamptee, carrying the coffin of Naik Bhushan Satai, who attained martyrdom in mortar shelling by Pakistan in Gurez sector of J&K.

The mortal remains of the Indian Army Naik Bhushan Satai, who attained martyrdom in mortar shelling by Pakistani troops in Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir on November 13, reached Nagpur airport on Sunday. From there, the coffin was carried to Army Cantonment in Kamptee. The funeral will be performed with full State honours at Satai’s native place Katol on Monday. A special flight carrying Late Nk Bhushan R Satai’s mortal remains landed at the Nagpur airport around 6.30 pm on Sunday. Group Captain Kanchan Kumar of the Indian Air Force, Lt Col Dhanaji Desai of NCC OTA; Maj Dr Shilpa Kharapkar, Zilla Sainik Welfare Officer; Group Captain Basantkumar B Pande, Public Relations Officer and Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence (Nagpur Region), and other officers and jawans received Satai’s body on Sunday. From the airport, the coffin was carried to the Army Cantonment at Kamptee. On Monday, civil and military dignitaries will lay wreaths at 8 am at Guards Regimental Centre Parade Ground, Kamptee.
 
Thereafter, the mortal remains of the martyr will be moved to Katol by road. Nagesh Jadhav, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Katol, told mediapersons that the last rites of 28-year-old Satai would be performed with full State honours at Katol at 10 am on Monday. Anil Deshmukh, Home Minister of Maharashtra, is expected to attend the funeral. Before Late Nk Bhushan Satai’s body was brought to Nagpur, the Indian Army paid tributes to him and other martyrs including Havildar Hardhan Chandra Roy, Gunner Subodh Ghosh, and Sepoy Jondhale Rushikesh Ramchandra. In a solemn ceremony at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar, Lt Gen B S Raju, Chinar Corps Commander, and all ranks paid homage to the gallant soldiers on behalf of the proud and grateful nation.
 
“In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with these bereaved families and remains committed to their dignity and well-being,” stated an official release by the Indian Army. Late Naik Bhushan Rameshrao Satai and Late Sepoy Rushikesh Ramchandra Jondhale of Maratha Light Infantary were deployed in Gurez Sector. In unprovoked artillery shelling by Pakistan Army, these bravehearts received multiple splinter injuries. They were provided immediate medical aid and evacuated to nearest military medical facility but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries.
 
Born on October 3, 1992, Bhushan Satai had joined the Indian Army on March 26, 2011. He was posted with 6 Maratha Light Infantry, under HQ 109 Infantry Brigade Division at Kanzalwan in Gurez sector in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir. He is survived by father Rameshrao Dhonduji Satai, who works as a labourer, mother Meera, sister Sarita, and younger brother Roshan who is pursuing a degree from a college in Katol and preparing for police recruitment drive. The family lives in Faelpura area of Katol.
