Raipur, Bilaspur, Bhilai record less pollution

Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB) has claimed that the air pollution level {Particulate Matter (PM-10)} during Diwali this year in the Capital has been 5.89 per cent less in comparison to what it was during last year. Similarly, it was 7.52 per cent less in Bilaspur and 9.3 per cent less in Bhilai in comparison to previous year.
 
Attributing this achievement to the directives issued by National Green Tribunal and initiatives taken by it in compliance of these directives coupled with intensive public awareness campaigns and active cooperation from district administration, police and the general public in particular, the CECB stated that the average common air quality - Particulate Matter (PM-10) in the capital this year has been recorded at 64.33 microgram per cubic meter. Similarly, the sulphur-di-oxide gas level came down by 5.3 per cent at 16.60 while the nitrogen oxide gas level came down by 4.7 per cent at 25.75.
 
According to the monitoring results conducted in the capital by pollution experts, the average common air quality - Particulate Matter (PM-10) at various stations were 71 microgram at City Kotwali, 56.6 microgram at AIIMS Raipur and 65.33 microgram per cubic meter at Pandri near district hospital. Similarly, in Bilaspur, the average common air quality - Particulate Matter (PM-10) at various stations were 55 microgram at Vyapar Vihar and 68 microgram per cubic meter near at Traffic police station. In Bhilai-Durg, the average common air quality - Particulate Matter (PM-10) at various stations were 55.4 microgram at 32 Bungalows, 63.8 microgram at Civic Centre and 66.2 microgram per cubic meter at City Kotwali Durg. Similarly, the sulphur-di-oxide gas level came down by 25.6 percent at 9.0 while the nitrogen oxide gas level came down by 21.2 percent at 11.1. The sound pollution level in capital Raipur on Diwali day this year was recorded at 65.53 decibel, which was 3.62 per cent less than the previous year.
 
Similarly, in Bhilai, the sound pollution level was recorded at 71.13 decibel. According to a report issued by the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board, the people from Raipur, Bilaspur and Bhilai-Durg breathed a sigh of relief due to lesser air and sound pollution. It may be recalled that the CECB had appealed to the people to follow environment norms and the directives issued by the NGT and the State Government, which got a very positive response. The state government has also issued directives to take all necessary measures for bringing down air and sound pollution level during Diwali day. Accordingly, CECB Member Secretary R P Tiwari, necessary directives were issued to the officials in compliance of the directives issued by National Green Tribunal. On his directive the Board had carried out extensive awareness campaigns throughout the state. The people were also appraised about the directives as well as about the environmental norms and their significance. The Board also got active cooperation from the respective district administration and police.
