Maha Metro to approach Traffic Police in view of violation of one-way traffic rules

Maha Metro said they are approaching Traffic Control Branch of Nagpur City police for a re-look at traffic plan for newly-opened Manish Nagar railway overbridge (RoB) and railway underbridge (RuB) as people are openly flouting one way norms at both the sites. In a media statement, Metro officials said in case city police suggest any new plan then they would take necessary steps for carrying out the changes as per the requirement. Also, Metro officials said though RoB and RuB are designed as 2-lane same is meant for one-way usage only as of now.

Akhilesh Halve, Deputy General Manager, Corporate Communication, added that the current arrangement is temporary in nature and based on directions from traffic department. In fact, width of RuB was increased from 6.5 meter underneath the railway track to 8.5 meter as sharp turn was unavoidable due to design. This was done to increase safety for the commuter inside the tunnel. Also mirrors have been put-up at the turning so that a traveller was take note of approaching vehicle from opposite side.

As per the directions traffic from Wardha Road towards Manish Nagar is permitted from RuB and vehicular movement from Manish Nagar to Wardha Road is allowed on the RoB. But disregarding the safety aspect, people are undertaking short cuts by taking a sharp left turn on double decker fly-over and moving into incoming traffic at RoB. Similarly despite road blocks at RuB, two wheeler riders as well as motorists are driving on wrong side to move onto Wardha Road form Manish Nagar.

The multi-layer transport system on Wardha Road is a unique structure, a T-Junction connecting the fly-over is a rarity. Maha Metro meanwhile started affixing signages, putting-up separators on left turn at Manish Nagar RoB perhaps giving an inkling of change in approach. The double decker fly-over, Manish Nagar RoB and subway the Metro officials have claimed are designed as per the norms laid down by Indian Road Congress (IRC). Adequate signage have been provided at vantage points.

Adequate LED lights as per IRC standards have been provided at all the sites keeping in mind overall safety standards. The opening of traffic on the multi-layer transport system on Wardha Road has given much needed relief to the Nagpurians and the three projects were constructed by Maha Metro Nagpur as part of deposit works of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). In fact, some signage fixed at different locations gave a message urging people to follow the rules. Similarly a sign is also put up on one of the pillar at entry to RuB mentioning that entry from that end is banned. The entry point from Manish Nagar to under pass is barricaded but ingenious Nagpurians are moving in through wrong side to move ahead to Wardha Road. More danger lurking inside the RuB is craze among citizens to stop and click selfies. Since the under pass has a sharp blind turn, the people are standing at same place to click pictures ignoring the danger their presence is causing to smooth movement of vehicular traffic coming from Ujjwal Nagar side.
