Yavatmal’s Dr Gawande on Joe Biden’s COVID-19 advisory committee

Dr Atul Gawande, hailing from a small village in Yavatmal district, has made people back home proud as he has been inducted in Joe Biden’s COVID-19 advisory committee in the United States of America. A Professor in Harvard Medical School since past several years, Dr Gawande has his roots in Uti village in Umarkhed taluka.
 
His father Dr Atmaram Gawande, after completing medical education in Nagpur, had moved to the US in 1963. Later, Dr Atul Gawande also pursued medicine and carved a niche for himself in medical field in the US. Dr Atmaram Gawande had kept his India connect alive by visiting Uti every year along with his family. Not just that, he did his bit for the people here as well. He had adopted Gopikabai Gawande College in Umarkhed and has been helping to improve various facilities in the institute.
 
After his death in 2011, Dr Atul Gawande continues to visit Uti and help villagers solve their problems. Now, he has made his people back home proud by bagging a place in US President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 advisory committee. Earlier, too, Dr Gawande had served in the advisory ream of former US President Bill Clinton.
