FIDE Arbiter (FA) Chetan Deodhagale clinched the Vidarbha-level MSV Memorial Open Blitz Chess Championship chess title on Sunday evening. Nagpur’s Deodhagale won the event accumulating eight points out of 9 rounds. He was followed by runner-up Jay Sawalakhe, also from Nagpur, with 7.5 points. Third position was secured by Dishank Bajaj with 7 points.
 
In the final round, Deodhagale, playing with white pieces on the top board defeated Kaustav Barat while young prodigy Sawalakhe got the better of Bajaj with black pieces on the second board. Best female prizes were won by Rashi Wairagade and Riddhi Agarwal of Nagpur and Anjali Powar from Amravati. As many as 59. players participated in the tournament. In all nine rounds were played.
 
The time control was given 5 minutes plus 2 seconds increment from move one to all players. Players from Amravati, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Yavtamal, Wardha, Buldana, Akola and Nagpur played nine rounds of chess The event, organised by Power Chess Academy for Vidarbha players only, was conducted through the platform of lichess.org. To observe the death anniversary of MS Venkatraman, his son V Ramachandran sponsored the cash prizes. The tournament was conducted under the supervision of IA Deepak Chavan and FA Umesh Panbude.
