VIDARBHA Cricket Association (VCA) celebrated the 125th Birth Anniversary of legendary cricketer and India’s first Test captain Col CK Nayudu on Saturday. In an impressive but simple function, all captains of VCA teams — men and women, garlanded the statue of Col Nayudu which is situated on the premises of VCA Stadium, Civil Lines, Nagpur.

The statue and its surrounding area have been beautified and lighted to give a very impressive look to the area. Adv Anand Jaiswal, President of VCA, while addressing the gathering said that, CK Nayudu was the first superstar of Indian cricket and such was his popularity that when Douglas Jardine of the ‘Body Line’ fame, brought his MCC team to India in 1934, all Indian teams that were to play against the MCC team requested participation of CK Nayudu in their teams so that the public could witness his batting skills.

Jaiswal added that CK Nayudu was well known for his power to hit huge sixes and was responsible for instilling pride in the Indian cricket team. VCA has a very special connection with CK Nayudu as he played many matches at the Civil Lines Stadium, representing the ‘Hindu’ team in the quadrangular matches that were played in those days. In the season 2019-20 the VCA Under-23 team won the BCCI conducted Col CK Nayudu U-23 Tournament. Present during the function were Secretary of VCA Parimal Vaidya, CEO Farokh Dastoor, coaches and selectors of VCA.
