Samagra Shiksha Chhattisgarh and StoryWeaver came together to conduct a training session for 90,000 teachers across State on World Children’s Day, observed annually on November 20, with a special focus this year on promoting children’s welfare. Teachers were encouraged to use StoryWeaver to access storybooks for a state-wide reading programme, and to create and translate storybooks in the local languages of Chhattisgarh, so that the children can continue to read and learn even when they are away from school. ‘Kahaani Diwas’ is a state-wide reading programme, currently, under way in Chhattisgarh.

Every week, StoryWeaver provides storybooks and activities to the teachers of State, to be disseminated among students via digital platforms like WhatsApp. The programme reaches 30,500 schools and has the potential to impact 17 lakh children. The ‘teacher training’ webinar was held on November 20 focused on the importance of the reading programme, and showed teachers how to use StoryWeaver’s tools to create and translate storybooks into the local languages of State, so that students can have access to storybooks in their own language.

Purvi Shah, Director, StoryWeaver said, “We are delighted to partner with Chhattisgarh, to empower teachers to share storybooks with their students and create mother tongue reading materials, especially during these difficult times. Upskilling teachers to translate children’s literature into local languages like Halbi, Kurukh, Sadri will ensure the availability of resources to promote sustained learning, and will help the children of Chhattisgarh experience the joy of reading in their own mother tongue.”

Dr M Sudhish, Samagra Shiksha Chhattisgarh, said that the teachers in Chhattisgarh are very proactive and always enthusiastic to learn new things. This webinar was observed by about 5,000 teachers. “I am sure that lot of local stories will come out from our teachers which could be shared with our students,” said Dr Sudhish.
