After being confined to their homes for several months due to coronavirus imposed lockdown, Vidarbha cricketers are back on their most cherished field, the Vidarbha Cricket Association’s Civil Lines Stadium. The players were immediately on their toes doing fitness drills and other exercises after civic authorities permitted the association to carry out fitness exercises. Initially, the players are doing strength and stamina building exercises apart from getting the feel of the ball in the ‘bio-secure bubble’. The sessions would get gruelling as days progress. The activities for various age groups started after the association received written permission from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation.

The training is being conducted in three parts: Batting training is being performed at its indoor batting facility. The bowling activities is being held in separate nets and fielding practice is going in small groups. Different teams have been allotted different time slots to ensure that all safety protocols are followed. VCA is following all guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) recommended by the local authorities and BCCI. To oversee all medical protocols as required by BCCI, VCA has also appointed a medical officer. The Medical Officer will also be educating the players and support staff on the protocols to be followed. This is going to be done time to time through webinars as well as physical instructions to each group. All the players, coaches and support staff had tested negative in the COVID-19 test after which the training started.

The players are also being instructed to maintain all safety norms even when they are not attending the training camps. According to a media release from VCA, all the playing and training areas have been properly sanitised and use of sanitizers, gloves and masks are properly followed. The training camps are being supervised by the coaches, physios and trainers of VCA. Vice-President and Chairman CADC Prashant Vaidya is overseen the entire process.
