RAIPUR,

Chief Secretary and 1987 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Rajendra Prasad Mandal, whose retirement date is due on November 30, is likely to be appointed as next Chairman of Nava Raipur Atal Nagar Vikas Pradhikaran (NRANVP). The State Government has sent a proposal regarding the extension of tenure of Chief Secretary R P Mandal by six months to Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India. But so far, the Chhattisgarh Government has not received any communication regarding extension of tenure of Rajendra Prasad Mandal as the Chief Secretary.

If Mandal does not get the extension, which is most unlikely he could be appointed as either Chairman of NRANVP or the Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Power Companies (CSPC). Considering his long experience and fruitful work with Baghel-led Government may hand over responsibility of development of Nava Raipur to R P Mandal. 1987 batch IAS officer Chittaranjan Kumar Khetan and 1989 batch IAS officer Amitabh Jain are among top contenders for the post of next Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh. 1987 batch IAS officer Khetan is the President of Board of Revenue Bilaspur while Amitabh Jain is Additional Chief Secretary of Finance Department.

At present, 1987 batch IAS Khetan is the senior most officer but Baghel government has appointed Rajendra Prasad Mandal as the Chief Secretary. 1987 batch IAS officer B V R Subrahmanyam is second senior most officer in the state but he is on central deputation and posted as Chief Secretary in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources close to Government claim that Amitabh Jain could be the most likely candidate to be appointed as next Chief Secretary after Mandal’s retirement.

Mandal has assumed the charge as the Chief Secretary on October 31, 2019. 1987 batch IAS officer Mandal has led the State on the path of development during the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking to The Hitavada, Mandal said that that he discharged the duties given to him by the government from time to time. After Rajendra Prasad Mandal took over the office of the Chief Secretary became accessible to employees of Mantralaya.
