While Government schools and some of central schools like Kendriya Vidyalaya and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are planning to reopen regular classes from second week of December by standard operating procedure, but private schools with CBSE affiliation are not keen on conducting offline classes till December month. In adherence to the directions of the Central Government, the Kendriya Vidyalayas and government schools of state government are in the process of collecting feedback from parents on regular classes with follow up of all protocols of COVID-19 safety for secondary classes of 9th to 12th. “Of course, we are ready to conduct online classes. But then, the parents consent matters.

By and large, parents seem to be reconciled to the outcome of the online classes and are not prepared to take the risk of sending their children to the schools,” said V Krishnan, Principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya. As for private unaided schools of CBSE in the twin cities of Bhilai as well as Durg, the standing instructions of State Government also have to be followed. The private school authorities are wary of starting regular classes after what they see as the ‘risky experimentation’ by government schools of Madhya Pradesh in some districts, where 55 children were diagnosed with COVID-19 positive. Since all of CBSE affiliated schools had started the online classes since March, on, they have been able to complete over 75 per cent of theory portions of all subjects after factoring in the 30 per cent cut in syllabus this year due to COVID-19 pandemic. Only practical portion is still left and school teachers are confident to complete it in January or February month. Even, some schools are also taking online model tests and class tests too, to see the preparation of students in this online mode.

“Nevertheless, we cover the portions deleted for this academic year too, keeping in mind the need to keep the students fully prepared for competitive exams,” said Savita Tripathi, Principal of Krishna Public School, Nehru Nagar, Bhilai. Another principal, Prashant Kumar told that school has already succeeded to complete 80 per cent curriculum through online and after reopening of schools, there is only need to take practical classes which will be held in February 2021. In current phase of COVID-19, school cannot take the life of wards at risk and so authority has decided to continue online classes till the end of this year. Most of the school authorities were of the view before launch of vaccine; it is very risky factor to reopen schools. Vaccine is the only hope and till it come the practice of wearing masks, washing hands frequently and maintaining physical distance must be attentively followed stated Padmaja Nand Kumar, Principal of BNS Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, Bhilai.
