State Government fixes water taxes

The State Government has fixed water taxes for usage of water as industrial purpose for thermal power and hydro power projects across State. The new water tax has been effective since October 21, 2020. In this regard, Water Resources Department, Government of Chhattisgarh has issued an order. For industrial purpose, dams, reservoirs, barrages, anicuts, etc. constructed from Government resources for thermal power projects have been included. The water rate has been fixed at Rs 10.50 per cubic metre for the collection of water in water bodies constructed from the Government resources.
 
The water rate has been also fixed at Rs 10.50 per cubic metre and Rs 12.25 per cubic metre for canal system. Rs 5 per cubic metre has been fixed for thermal power projects for usage of water as industrial purpose from natural resources like liver and drains, while Rs 10 per cubic metre will be charged for usage of ground water. The amounts of this fund will be utilised for conservation of water. Rs 3.50 per cubic metre has been fixed as the water tax for usage of water as the industrial purpose from the water resources developed by the industries.
 
Chhattisgarh Government has also fixed water tax separately for water units like mineral water, liquor and cold drinks. Rs 200 per cubic metre has been fixed as the water tax for usage of water as the industrial purpose from dams, barrage, anicut, water reservoirs and other water bodies constructed from the Government resources. Rs 100 per cubic metre ahs been fixed for usage of water from river, drains and other natural resources for water units and Rs 250 per cubic metre has been fixed for usage of ground water for water units. Rs 80 per cubic metre will be charged for usage of water from their own resources of the water units.
 
Rs 1.07 has been fixed for usage of water from hydro power units and Rs 2-100 will be charged as escalation charges annually. Rs 1.25 has been fixed for usage of water from canal system and Rs 2.50 will be charged annually as escalation charges on 100 unit power generation. The water tax received from the industries will be deposited separately in the “Ground Water Conservation Fund”. The Water Resources Department has fixed different water rates for usage of water as the industrial purpose, informed an official press communique.
