CHANDRAPUR, Former Finance Minister of Maharashtra Sudhir Mungantiwar has expressed his concerns over the large-scale damage to crops due to pest attack across the district. He forwarded a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and demanded to provide immediate relief to the farmers.

Mungantiwar has informed that Chandrapur, Ballarpur, Pombhurna, Saoli, Mul, Nagbhid, Sindewahi, Brahmapuri and Chimur talukas of Chandrapur district are paddy producing talukas. Paddy crop in these tehsils was attacked by pests in the month of October, as a result the paddy output this year is going to decrease substantially. In fact damage to the crops in some cases is so high that farmers would be barely able to recover their cultivation cost. He stated that farmers bore high cost of multiples spraying of pesticides but to no avail.

The pest attack has completely destroyed the crop, leaving the farmers in pathetic condition. Munganitwar has pointed out that administration has not carried out survey of crop damage caused by pest attack. He has demanded for immediate survey of the crop damage and apt compensation to the farmers against it, in the letter sent to the Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister.
