RAIPUR,

BJP Legislative Party Leader Dharamlal Kaushik has alleged that due to damage of standing crops after use of sub-standard fertilisers and seeds as well as spurious insecticides, farmers in many parts of State are committing suicide. It is unfortunate that State Government instead of taking strong action against the people indulged in selling such sub-standard fertilisers and seeds as well as spurious insecticides, State Government has gone to the limit of terming such action as outcome of mental problems, etc.

The BJP Legislative Party leader Dharamlal Kaushik along with former Minister Chandrashekhar Sahu and senior BJP leader Ashok Bajaj, Dr Gulab Tikriya, Babi Kashyap, Yudhisthir Chandrakar, Gaurishankar Srivas, Kiran Banjare, Tanu Mishra, Kamal Narayan Sahu, Umesh Yadav, etc visited village Torla in Abhanpur block and met with the family members of farmer Prakash Tarak who had committed suicide recently. The BJP delegation led by Kaushik also gave Rs 21,000 to the family as financial assistance. He demanded from State Government to provide government service on compassionate grounds to one family member apart from taking care of his children.

He also urged the District Administration to get the house of the deceased farmer repaired which is in dilapidated condition apart from compensation for the crop damage. Kaushik said that five farmers have committed suicide in State in last one month, while in last one year 233 farmers have committed suicide. He while interacting with the family members of Prakash Tarak, it has come to fore that neither he was a mental patient, nor had any other related ailments.

The State Government is trying to hush up the facts, he alleged. Meanwhile, the report submitted by the team constituted by the Raipur Collector for investigating the cause of suicide by Prakash Tarak, it was stated that the farmer was suffering from mental agony since last 3-4 months. His suicide has nothing to do with crop damage, loan or hunger, but he committed suicide due to his mental condition. The report further stated that Prakash Tarak whose family includes his wife and four children. He used to do cultivation in 1.79 hectare land. He also had a job card under MGNREGS. He lived in a three room house. There was no loan pending on him and his family was receiving PDS rice on a regular basis. During the previous Kharif season, Prakash Tarak had sold 105 quintal paddy and received Rs 1.83 lakh as Minimum Support Price against the paddy. He also received Rs 54,000 as a paddy bonus.
