CITY Police’s Head Constable and noted international long distance swimmer Sukhadeo Dhurve has made it to the India Book of Records. Dhurve, along with wife Vaishali, son Sarthak and daughter Tanvi had completed a family relay swimming in the Arabian Sea. The family, in a relay, attempted to cover the distance from Elephanta to Gateway of India in Mumbai.

They were successful in their endeavour making it in 4.31 hours. The India Book of Records has acknowledged the effort and recently issued him a certificate stating that Dhurve family is ‘First Family On Relay Swimming Expedition’. He has also been awarded a medal for the unique record. The feat has been already been recognised by the Asian Book of Records. Dhurve, who is attached to Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, is a regular member of the Kamgar Kalyan Swimming Pool, Raghuji Nagar.

To his credit, Dhurve, who loves adventure swimming, first completed the 36-km Dharamtar expedition in the Arabian Sea in 2008. He did no stop there and next year successfully completed the Strait of Gibraltar, a narrow strait that connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. Sarthak, apart from adventure swimming, has participated in water polo at state and national level. Vaishali is also a national-level swimmer and has won many medals. Young Tanvi, a student of Narayan Vidyalayam, has her medal counts in double digits winning those at various district meets. She was also exposed to seas swimming at a very tender age. All played their part well in the family relay.
