Rs 8.97 crore paid to 77,592 cattle owners under GNY

Under the Godhan Nyay Yojana (GNY), Rs 8.97 crore were paid online to 77,592 cattle owners and villagers against cow-dung collected from them between October 20 to November 5, 2020 in various gothans across State by CM Bhupesh Baghel. Till date, an amount of Rs 47.38 crore has been paid to cattle owners and villagers against cow-dung collected from them.
 
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on the occasion said that the Gothan and Godhan Nyay Yojana is being implemented satisfactorily with the co-ordinated efforts of all departments concerned and villagers, farmers, cattle owners and poor people in the society are getting benefited from it. He said that manufacturing and sale of vermicompost from gothans have already started and it is benefiting the women SHGs operating these centres. He also stressed upon providing training to these members of women SHGs so that they can expand their product range and bring variety in it.
 
The Chief Minister said that all under construction gothans should be completed at the earliest and should be developed as livelihood centres. He also asked the officials to supply the vegetables produced by women SHGs to government institutions like schools for mid-day meal purposes as well as in ashrams, hostels, etc. The Chief Minister directed the officials to ensure that these women SHGs should produce demand-based products so that they are benefited continuously. Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey said that State Government is fulfilling its promises by distributing amounts against cow-dung purchase on fortnightly basis under the Godhan Nyay Yojana. He said that this scheme is beneficial for the needy and poor people. He further said that for examining the quality of vermin-compost being produced in gothans, laboratories are being established in every district.
 
For connecting gothans with livelihood activities, 10 gothans each, are affiliated to respective district agriculture science centres as well as dairy and fisheries’ colleges. Agriculture Produce Commissioner Dr M Geeta informed that of 5,454 gothans across State, cow-dung is being procured in 3,677 gothans. Till date 23.68 lakh quintal cow-dung have been procured and over 8,000 quintals of vermi-compost has been manufactured till date. Also present on the occasion were Forest Minister Mohammed Akbar, Parliamentary Secretary Shishupal Sori, Secretary (Agriculture) Amrit Kumar Xalxo, Secretary Siddhartha Komal Pardeshi and other senior administrative officials.
