CITY'S talented International Master Sankalp Gupta made it to the renowned World Chess Championship which will be held online from December 19. IM Sankalp finished a creditable second in the just concluded Asian Continental Selection FIDE Online World U10-18 Rapid Championships. In the competition, 17-year-old Sankalp tied with compatriot Indian Grandmaster Iniyan P and Gholami Orimi Mahdi of Iran with 5.5 each.

 

But the city lad made it to the Worlds on better tie-break points. In the seven rounds competition, Sankalp defeated Sun Chao of China, Nikookar Mahdi of Iran, Llanillo Paul Matthew of Philippines, India's Moksh Amit Doshi and IM Neelash Saha. He managed to split point with eventual champion Iniyan P to end with 5.5 points.
