AWORKSHOP on athletics and its rules was organised during the ongoing Games: New Rules, Regulations and its Benefits through Google Meet platform. The workshop was organised jointly by Department of Sports and Physical Education, SB City College, Nagpur; SK Porwal College Kamptee; Arts College, Sihora; Shri Niketan Arts Commerce College, Nagpur, DD Bhoyar College of Arts and Science, Mouda. Vasant Gokhale, Member of Technical Committee, Maharashtra Athletics Association, was the guest speaker on the occasion. Gokhale guided the students with rules and technicalities of track and field events.
 
Organised athletics are traced back to the Ancient Olympic Games from 776 BC. The rules and format of the modern events in athletics were defined in Western Europe and North America in the 19th and early 20th century, and were then spread to other parts of the world, said Gokhale, who is also an I n t e r n a t i o n a l Athletics official and has conducted several tests as AAFI Technical Officer. Coming tot the modern era, Gokhale said, the first modern-style indoor athletics meetings were recorded shortly after in the 1860s, including a meet at Ashburnham Hall in London which featured four running events and a triple jump competition.
 
An athletics competition was included in the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 and it has been as one of the foremost competitions at the quadrennial multi-sport event ever since. On official athletics bodies in India, Gokhale said, Athletics Federation of India (AFI) is the apex body for running and managing athletics in India and is affiliated to theWorld Athletics, AAA and Indian Olympic Association.The AFI has as many as 32 affiliated state units and institutional units.
 
The AFI came into existence in 1946 and the federation organises the national championships, trains the Indian athletics national campers, selects the Indian athletics teams for various international competitions, including the Olympics, Asian Games, CWG, World Championships, Asian Championships and other international meets. Dr Jai Kumar Kshirsagar of Arts College, Sihora, District Bhandara, Organising CoConvenor introduced the guest. Chief Guest of the session was Dr Sachin Chafle, Principal, Arts College, Sihora. He motivated the participants and congratulated the organisers. Organising Secretary Dr Indrajit Basu, Organising Convenor Dr Sanjay Choudhary, Organising Co-Convenor Dr Jaikumar Kshirsagar, Organising Joint Secretary Dr Prashant Khalatkar committee members Dr Rajesh Alone, Dr Prashant Bambal, Dr Jayant Ramteke, Prof Kalpana Mishra, Prof Mallika Nagpure are working hard. The programme was conducted by Prof Mishra while Dr Khalatkar proposed a vote of thanks.
