IN A positive development for sports and sportspersons of the State, Maharashtra Education and Sports Department has decided to permit training/practice of non-contact and minimal/medium contact games. The decision was taken on Wednesday. Though the notification was issued by the State Government, local body, Nagpur Municipal Corporation is yet to issue any guidelines.
 
Training activities is permitted in non-containment zones and will have to followed by Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). All non-contact sports like archery, cycling, fencing, shooting, athletics, yoga and minimal and medium contact sports including football, hockey, cricket, volleyball, basketball, handball, weightlifting, lawn tennis, table tennis, carrom, chess, kho-kho etc. have been permitted for practice and training. Full contact sports like wrestling, wushu, taekwon-d, karate, boxing, waterpolo, kabaddi and others will have to be performed by strictly adhering to SOPs. Similarly, swimming has also been permitted but with SOPs and other orders of the government.
