IT MAY be a by-product of ‘social distancing’ — a new normal owing to the dreaded coronavirus pandemic, but both players and parents are opting for personal coaching in cricket these days. Cricket training is generally a group activity and players approach their coach only to iron out the flaws. But lately, it has been observed that players are opting for personalised coaching. “First of all I am very happy that things are back on track.

It feels good to see players on the ground. Post COVID, the players and even their parents are requesting for personalised training. It is a win-win situation for everybody. The player gets a fully dedicated coach and with full attention and focus, the player is surely benefited. With this type of one-to one coaching, it takes about six months for a player to be ready to play matches. Earlier, the players would require one-and half to two years of training,” said Madhav Bakre, Director, Nagpur Cricket Academy that is housed at Kurvey’s School Near Deekshabhoomi Square. “With a view to creating more job opportunities, we are hiring only young coaches. We have come up with new formula of giving chances to young coaches.

At NCA we do not have old coaches. At present we have a pool of 13 coaches including Rafique Shaikh, Yash Thorat, Mohan Sambre, Munna Rajput who all have been playing cricket for Vidarbha. They are in 20-24 age bracket and gel well with the young crop,” said Bakre. The practise sessions are held daily in morning and evening. As NCA officials believe in ‘match practise is the best practise’, players get chance to play more matches and tournaments.
