Banking services affected; employees hold rally

Bank employees under the banner of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) organised a massive rally in State capital as a part of nationwide strike. The rally witnessed participation of 5,000 employees. Sanjay Qureshi from UFBU said that the strike was effective in all bank branches in State capital. In Madhya Pradesh, this union has strength of total 40,000 employees. From Bhopal, around 7,000 employees have rendered their support. As a part of two-day strike on February 1 a protest will be organised in front of Board office. On January 31, rally was taken out from Big Bazaar to Vishal Mega Mart via Jail road, he informed.

Further, union members also said that differences between bank employees’ union and management over a 20% pay hike, five-day work week, etc failed to get resolved, thousands of bank employees sat on a two-day bank strike from today. Bank union leaders said IBA has offered 15% pay hike as if now from 12 %. Several PSU bank branches and even ATMs remain shut for two days in many parts of the city. The bank unions have refused to budge from their demands of a 20% pay hike on pay slip components with adequate loading thereof.
 
Bank unions are also demanding five-day week, merger of special allowance with basic pay,
scrapping of new pension scheme (NPS), etc. They have alleged that now IBA made it clear that the proposal of a five-day banking is not possible. United Forum of Bank Unions comprising of All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA), Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI), Indian National Bank Employees Federation (INBEF), National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW), National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE), Indian National Bank Officers Congress (INBOC), All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) & National Organisation of Bank Officers (NOBO) etc have given nationwide strike call in support of their various demands.
