Tiger Reserve (BTR) has decided to release four tigers from enclosure by February end. Two tigers will be brought to Van Vihar National Park, Bhopal, while two more will be sent to Satpura and Bandhavgarh. Four tigers are enclosed in separate cages of the reserve. Deputy Director of Bandhavgarh Siddharth Gupta said the process to release four tigers from the enclosure has been started.

He said management is making efforts to free them by February end as they have completed the tenure of enclosure. He further informed that last month a pair of tigers was sent to Satpura Tiger Reserve. The third tiger that is selected to be sent again at Satpura belongs to the same family due to which officials said to send him with the family. Officials said earlier it was planned to send a pair of tigers to Nauradehi but suddenly the plan was changed.

The tiger that was selected for Nauradehi has been sent to Satpura. Deputy Director of Bandhavgarh Siddharth Gupta said, “Currently there is no plan to send any big cat to Nauradehi. Two tigers who have been selected for Van Vihar are living in a cage from an early age. Mother tigress of the cubs died in a fight with male tiger. Since then, cubs are living in cage and they could not learn hunting skills. Therefore, the officials have decided to send them to Van Vihar for display enclosure. Tiger that has been selected to set free in the wild of Bandhavgarh was rescued from a village. He said now these four tigers cannot be enclosed in cage as they have completed their time. As per NTCA guidelines, these four tigers need to be set free in the wild or relocated.”

TIGER rescued from Chakra region of Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR) on Saturday will be set free in Churna jungle on Monday. The tiger was rescued with the help of five different teams and two elephants after it killed a woman and many cattle in nearby villages. Officials of Satpura Tiger Reserve said that Churna jungle is big area wise and villages are far away. They said after releasing the tiger in Churna, it will be safe for the tiger as well as humans. The tiger was rescued by the team with several efforts. The team had tied up a buffalo calf in Chakargaon area. After a few hours, the tiger killed the calf and was sitting there for one hour. Taking advantage of the situation, rescue team with the help of a tranquilliser captured the canine. The tiger had killed a woman in Matkuli region of STR about three days back. Locals were reeling under fear and they alleged that the tiger is man-eater and he has killed many cattle as well as humans in several villages. Aggrieved villages created ruckus and torched forest eco-centre. They also blocked traffic at Matkuli tri-way. They broke doors, windows, gates, furniture and other equipments of the centre and later set it afire. Talking to ‘The Hitavada’ S K Singh, Field Director STR said, “We have decided to keep the tiger in Satpura jungle. He will be released in the wild of Churna that has large area with no village location.”
