Former Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Vice President Dr Raman Singh criticised Congress government for filing review petition in connection with CBI enquiry in the multi-crore NGO scam that took place in the Social Welfare Department. Dr Raman Singh questioned that why Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government filed the review petition in the case when the High Court passed an order for CBI inquiry in the multi-crore NGO scam.

The State government filed the review petition against the CBI inquiry, he added. Congress government is raising financial corruption charges against the previous BJP government. But when the High Court passed the order for CBI inquiry into the multi-crore NGO scam, the State government filed the review petition against the High Court’s order, said the BJP National Vice President. Dr Raman Singh alleged that the State government should clear its intensions. Countering the statement of former Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Vice President Dr Raman Singh, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee’s Communication Department Chairman Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said that the scam took place during the regime of Dr Raman Singh government.

On the recommendation of Dr Raman Singh, Dr Sachchidanand Joshi, Prafull Vishwakarma, Sudhir Jain and Damodar Ganesh Vapat were nominated to the Rajya Shrot (Nishaktjan) Kendra and the scam took place under the nose of Dr Raman Singh but he is hiding the facts, Trivedi alleged. In 2019, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government has barred the CBI from investigating cases after the state government withdrew the general consent granted to the CBI to probe cases in the state. The State government filed a review petition in connection with the scam after the High Court directed for a CBI inquiry in this case.

Advocate General of Chhattisgarh government Satish Chandra Verma presented the state government’s views in High Court that the State government has barred the CBI from investigating cases as the state dispensation is capable to investigate the case, said the CPCC’s Communication Department Chairman. Earlier, the then BJP government had also barred CBI from investigating cases in the state in 2012, he added. Trivedi questioned as to why Dr Raman Singh did not handover the Jhiram Ghati Naxal attack case, in which at least 25 Congress leaders were killed in 2013, to the CBI for investigation. The CPCC’s Communication Department Chairman alleged that Dr Raman Singh is levelling false charges against Bhupesh Baghel government.
