Railway authorities reached to the Bhopal Railway Station on Friday morning to check the status. However, rail service has been restored and operation of trains successfully started at the station. Railway has also started repairing work of the slab and Railway Over Bridge (ROB).

GM Shailendra Singh reviewed the collapsed ROB and repair work. He took officials to task for such a big carelessness. He also sought the safety audit report of the ramp and raised question related to the quality of material used in construction. He also visited Chirayu Medical Hospital to see the injured and directed to give them best medical treatment.

GM Shailendra Singh also suspended SSE (Work) V K Sharma with immediate effect. While inspecting the repairing work of ramp, he asked officials weather this bridge is in condition of restarting for the public. He also sought action plan of the entire station on spot and directed to start the ROB.

Bhopal Railway Public Relations Officer (PRO) I A Siddique said that high-level
committee of West Central Railway has started enquiry in this case. Further action will be taken by Railways as per the committee’s report. Apart from this rail traffic has been started on the platform no 2 and 3. People suppose to board in the train at platform no 2 and 3 are using bridge for stairs at the Itarsi end. Experts also raised question over the design of bridge. They said design of the ROB is so risky that there is no safety guarantee of the new slab being set up on the bridge. On condition of anonymity, a railway official informed that only one-one rod is set up at both side of the bridge. He said slab of cement and concrete tiled on the ramp has no support of iron rod in middle part. The side part of iron rod is oxidised and it has become weak due to rain and washing water. He said that if concern team is repairing the ramp for restart, it would be risky in future. Bhopal Railway has stoppage of more than 160 train everyday and there are more than 50,000 passengers visit this station. For facility of passengers there are five lifts, one escalator and three ROB. But all the five lifts are out of order for past six months. Railway is yet to repair these lifts.
