THE Raipur Police claimed to have cracked the armed loot, which took place at Trimurti Nagar locality under Devendra Nagar police limits on Thursday night, by arresting five looters and recovering the looted amount on Saturday. “Raipur Police have successfully cracked the case of armed loot by arresting five looters from running train and recovered cash worth Rs 49.10 lakh looted in the offence. Police have also recovered the country-made pistol used in the crime near from Raipur railway station,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shaikh Arif Husen.
 
The accused were identified as Ashok Jakhad (30), Prem Jat (22), Jaikishan Godara (20), Ganesh Jat (22) and Bhawar Choudhary (20), all residents of Rajasthan, said the SSP Raipur, adding that all the accused have a previous crime record and had spend jail term in connection with a murder case. Search is on for the mastermind Melaram and soon, he will be nabbed, SSP Husen asserted. Analysing evidences collected through Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS), police investigators identified and ascertained that the looters had left Raipur via train and were heading towards Delhi via Nagpur. Based on prima facie information, a police team, which was already in Delhi, was alerted and the police team back in Raipur was giving requisite assistances and information to their team in Delhi.
 
After thuis information the police team who were camping in Delhi boarded the train in which the accused were travelling about 30 kilometer ahead of Delhi and arrested the looters in the running train,” SSP Husen said. In the wake of the crime, three teams were constituted, said SSP Husen and informed that during investigation, it was learnt that a worker identified as Melaram, who was previously working under the plywood/timber merchant Bablu Sharma, has hatched the entire plan for loot. Crucial details about cash and hidden locker of Bablu Sharma was provided by Melaram to the looters following which they carried out recce in the area for two days.
 
There was a pact between Melaram and looters that Melaram would keep around 25 percent of the loot amount and rest will be taken by the accused. Praising the efforts of police team involved in cracking the case, Director General of Police (DGP) D M Awasthi has announced cash reward of Rs 1 lakh while Raipur Range Inspector General of Police Dr Anand Chhabra declared Rs 30000 as cash reward for the investigating team, informed SSP Husen. The police team will also be felicitated under ‘Indradhanus Yojana’, added the officer. Notably, SSP Raipur has announced Rs 10000 as cash reward for the police team. It is to be mentioned here that on Thursday night, a group of four armed looters stormed into the flat of Bajrang Sharma, cash collection employee of the timber merchant, and looted Rs 49.10 lakh on gunpoint. An offence in this connection was registered with Devendra Nagar police station under Section 394 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), which amounts to the charge of voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery.
