A city-based organisation, engaged in fighting for the cause of common public, has shot letter to District Collector Dr S Bhartidasan raising voice of concern over approval to a petrol pump in a densely populated area of State capital allegedly in violation of rules. Copies of the complaint have also been forwarded to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Chief Secretary R P Mandal. Chhattisgarh Nagrik Sangharsh Samiti president Vishwajeet Mitra said that the Samiti has mailed the letter to the District Collector requesting for details regarding the approval. Copy of the complaint letter has also reached the office of the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh, he said.

He mentioned in the letter that the petrol pump is coming up on Shankar Nagar Main Road (near Geeta Medical and beside District Institute of Education and Training). This is a densely populated area and therefore approval should be cancelled with the immediate effect, urged Mitra on behalf of the samiti. He said that the land where work on the petrol pump has been initiated belongs to R Sarogi. This land is close to State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), DIET and residential colonies.

If petrol pump comes up here it would pose great threat to life and property of the people, said Mitra in the letter. There also commercial activities going on here apart from nursing home, medical and residential flats. Mitra questioned as to how the district administration and municipal corporation can give permission for a petrol pump in the populous area. Mitra recalled the Diamond Petrol Pump fire incident in Civil Lines which was situated beside Kanker Travels, Gaurav Path. The pump was sealed following the incident and the case was yet to be disposed of. The court has not yet granted permission to revive the petrol pump, he said. Mitra requested the district collector for suitable action in the matter.
